The Prayer Shawl Ministry will resume in the fall.

Prayer Shawl Ministry

The Desert Palms Prayer Shawl Ministry is a true blessing to those who need comfort and prayer.  A group of women at Desert Palms Presbyterian Church prayerfully knit and crochet shawls in their homes.  When the group meets once a month, the ladies place their hands on the shawls to dedicate them with prayer.   Attached to each shawl is a card with a meaningful prayer printed on it.

This year forty-five shawls were presented to church members, friends and neighbors who are in need of comfort and prayer.  The recipients become wrapped in the love and prayers of Desert Palms Church members.  Church Deacons, Stephen Ministers, Pastors and Nurse Ellen present the shawls to those who are experiencing health problems or are suffering from the loss of a loved one. Words are not enough to express how wonderfully these shawls have been received.

In addition to the shawls, the group presented to Banner Del Well Hospital about forty newborn baby caps.  Many baby blankets were knit or crocheted and presented to Presbytery of the Grand Canyon for distribution to some of the reservations in Arizona.

The Prayer Shawl Ministry continues to be part of the “Fallen Soldier/Military program. Many mothers, grandmothers, wives and sisters have received these shawls.

This past September the Prayer Shawl Ministry became part of the Dover Air Force Base program where the chaplain presents the shawls to the families of fallen soldiers.

It is the hope of the Prayer Shawl members that those who are wrapped in the shawls will feel the comfort and peace of our heavenly Father who encircles His arms around all of us.
