Angel Bees

Who remembers The Cat in the Hat?

I’m guessing probably most of us remember this Dr. Seuss classic.  We had the Cat, who shows up at Sally and her brother’s house one day while their mother is away and causes all kinds of havoc, along with Thing One and Thing Two, despite the objections of the children’s fish!  This book was to be the ‘modern day’ Dick and Jane teaching book, BUT, did you know that Dr. Seuss wrote this because he was so frustrated with the word list he could use to write this ‘teaching’ book that he decided to scan the list and create a story based on the first two words he found that rhymed.  The words he found were cat and hat.  Two totally random words made a book!

How does this relate to quilting, you ask?  Every single quilt starts out with putting random pieces of fabric together!  We take whatever material is given to us, we put it together with other fabric, we spend hours sewing, and Voila, we have a quilt! When you look at the pieces separately you can’t imagine them working well, but somehow it all comes together.  Next timeyou see a quilt, think about The Cat in the Hat!

The Angel Bees started out with a bang!  Our initial meeting had 8 of us, and since then we’ve gained one more!  We had our first booth in Fellowship Hall, and were a part of the Mission display.  Our goal of 100 finished quilts by the time the “Angel Tree” gifts are collected still feels like an ambitious goal, but piece by piece, quilt by quilt, we’re working on it!

“For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.”  Matthew 18:20

Our next meeting will be on Friday, November 16 at 1 p.m. at the home of Charlene Weir.  Please call her, if you have any questions.
