AED Training

An AED (automated external defibrillator) training session

was held on June 30 at Desert Palms Church.

The computerized medical device was recently purchased by the church.

 Automatic External Defibrillator (AED)

The Health Cabinet voted unanimously to recommend to the Session the purchase of an Automatic External Defibrillator (AED). The Session received the recommendation on Saturday, April 17 and authorized the purchase of this device. The AED is “automatic” and does not require a medically trained individual to operate this device. In fact it is so automatic, that in a recent study over half of those operating the device had never seen one before. Yet they were just as successful in resuscitation as the trained operator. This device automatically reads the heart rhythm and notes the need or not for shock treatment. The untrained or trained operator is covered under the Good Samaritan Law which holds harmless the good faith user of this device.

The Health Cabinet is asking that anyone in the congregation interested in helping with this project and willing to be trained on the use of this device, call our Congregational Nurse, Ellen Van Arsdale at 584-4602, extension 208.

Defibrillator Training

A Philips HeartStart OnSite Defibrillator has been purchased and installed and is located just inside the door on the wall in the entrance to Fellowship Hall. This device is not locked or alarmed but we request that it not be removed from the storage cabinet unless it is needed in an emergency.

The second  training session regarding the use of the device will be held in the fall of 2010.  If you are an usher, a staff member, a volunteer, or an interested member we invite and encourage you to attend this training session.
