Eckart and Dian Sellheim
Sunday, February 28, 2010
3 p.m.
Eckert Sellheim and his wife Dian Baker formed a piano duo in 1998 and concertize in the United States and Europe. They have performed the complete works for piano duet by Schubert, Brahms, Debussy, Mozart, and others. Their repertoire includes many contemporary works for piano four-hands, especially by American composers.
Eckart received his musical training in Germany and Switzerland. Since 1989 he has been Professor and Director of Collaborative Piano at ASU. Sellheim maintains a very active performance schedule, having made concert tours in the U.S.A., Latin America and the Caribbean, the Middle East, Africa, and throughout Europe, including Russia.
His longtime collaboration, especially in the Romantic repertoire, with his late brother, cellist Friedrich-Jürgen Sellheim is manifested in an award-winning set of recordings on the CBS/Sony label. He appears regularly on radio programs in the U.S.A. and abroad and has made more then 20 recordings as piano and fortepiano soloist and collaborative pianist.
Internationally acclaimed pianist Dian Baker, soloist and chamber music collaborator, has toured on four continents, and has given classes in Hong Kong, China, India, Malaysia, Bolivia, Peru, Switzerland and Ecuador. Dian pursued post-graduate music studies in Switzerland at the Zurich Conservatory and received the ’Outstanding Woman of the Year’ award from Brigham Young University, where she directed the Collaborative Piano area as a Senior Lecturer for ten years. Ms. Baker received a Doctorate of Musical Arts degree from ASU, and is currently on the music faculty at Mesa Community College and the principal pianist for The Phoenix Boys Choir.
