Sun Cities CROP WALK for Hunger: Sunday, February 21. Join Desert Palms members in walking and pledging money.
CROP WALK FEBRUARY 21
The annual Sun Cities CROP Walk for Hunger is Sunday, February 21. The 1st United Methodist Church in Sun City (9849 N. 105 Ave, South of Peoria Ave.) is this year’s sponsor. The Walk begins at 2 p.m. with registration starting at 1:30 p.m.
Church World Services’ CROP Walk (Communities Responding to Overcome Poverty) is recognized as one of America’s most efficient charities. It is conducted annually throughout the country with over 2 million walkers each year raising over $16 million. 25% of all funds donated stays in the sponsor’s community. This year the funds will be donated to the Valley View Community Food Bank. Last year the 25% went to the New Life Center.
Last year, Desert Palms proudly sponsored the walk. Our church raised donations totaling $2,391, the most of any of the seven churches participating. The total donations were $4,429 with over 95 walkers. Phyllis Baldwin, coordinator of the walks for several years, has been involved with the CROP Walk for 20 years. She reports that Desert Palms has always been the top fund raiser for the CROP walk. We can be proud of our participation. You can be involved in 3 ways:
(1) Raise donations and walk
(2) Raise donations, or
(3) Donate and walk.
The table for CROP Walk will be available each Sunday during Fellowship Hour beginning January 24. The Soul Sisters will be coordinating our Church’s participation in the CROP Walk. Stop by to talk to us, pick up your packet, or make your donation. Important: Please make checks payable to CWS/CROP.
Thank you.
