2017 Desert Palms Senior Service Award Recipients
Phil and Carol Main
Phil and Carol Main were honored on March 30, at the 33rd Senior Service Award Luncheon at Valley Presbyterian Church in Paradise Valley.
As the 2017 Desert Palms recipients of this award, they received a Certificate of Appreciation at the annual event which is sponsored by the Older Adult Concerns and Celebrations Committee of Grand Canyon Presbytery.
Members since January 2006, Phil and Carol have been active at Desert Palms in many ways over the years. They are a blessing to Desert Palms and they have been very generous in their service to the church and community.
Phil volunteers in many areas of our Church. He is our sound expert, makes CD’s and DVD’s, works with the hearing aids, provides audio and video for Sunday Worship and memorial services, assists our Building Superintendent with different jobs around our church, helps with electrical work, is on the Property/Technical Committee and serves on our Spiritual Life and Growth Committee and Session as Elder/Trustee.
Carol has worked on the church website for many years, has been active with the Quilt Group that makes quilts for the girls at Mingus Mountain Academy in Prescott Valley, has been a member of the Prayer Shawl ministry, is a member of the Chancel Choir since 2006 and sings in the smaller Ensemble Choir which performs locally for independent and assisted living centers and particularly enjoys entertaining these people who respond with such enthusiasm. She was leader of Rebecca Circle and is about to complete her second year as Vice-Moderator for Desert Palms PW. In April she will begin a two year term as Moderator of PW.
Phil and Carol joined a mission project a few years ago in Greer, Arizona, at the Montlure Presbyterian Church Camp to clean and prepare the grounds and buildings for the summer campers. They participate in the collection drives for school uniforms and food drives.
Phil and Carol are Co-Presidents of the Sun City West New England Club. Phil has been Membership Chairman for the Valley Engineering, Science & Technology Club for several years.
Carol was an early childhood educator teaching and directing the weekday program at Grace Covenant Presbyterian in Mauldin, South Carolina twenty years and was active in the South Carolina Association for the Education of Young Children and other professional organizations. In1995 she was presented with the "Always has time for Children" Advocate Award.
In 2005 Phil retired from BP/Amoco after many years of engineering in Greenville, South Carolina.
