A Healing Spirit

Anyone who has experienced a major loss knows that grief and grieving are a process. While Elisabeth Kubler-Ross has written a great deal about the stages and aspects of grief, each experience of grief is unique. And, there are many losses other than death that can leave us grieving. Divorce or the break-up of an important relationship, estrangement from family members or close friends, moving from our home to a new residence, the loss of independence, or even the loss of physical abilities can all trigger deep grief.

The important thing to remember when dealing with grief is not to try to go it alone. Reach out to others and talk with them often, even if you feel that you are repeating yourself or if you cry. Telling your stories and sharing your feelings are essential in order to find a measure of peace and healing. Just take it one breath, one feeling at a time. Each time you talk about your feelings, and share your story, you’ll release some of the pain. Each time you’ll discover something new. Each time you’ll heal a little bit more.

Here at Desert Palms, a wonderful, supportive group meets every Wednesday at 11:30 a.m. in the Conference Room. If you have been experiencing a major loss and would benefit from the support of a caring fellowship, please consider this your personal invitation to attend. Even if you are not able to feel God’s presence, God is very close to you and working to fill your life with new blessings.

There is a light in the world, a healing spirit, more powerful than any darkness we may encounter. We sometimes lose sight of this force, when there is so much suffering, too much pain. Then suddenly, the spirit will emerge through the lives of ordinary people who care and answer in extraordinary ways.  (Mother Teresa)

Blessings and peace,
