The Rev. Linda J. Bailey, Associate Pastor
Meet Linda Bailey
Desert Palms Associate Pastor
General Job Description: For her first few months on the staff, the focus has been on a team ministry approach in ministerial care and interfacing with the many standing committees. When one of the pastoral team attends a committee meeting, visits someone in the home or hospital, they are representing the other members of the team. This team approach is giving Linda an invaluable opportunity to get to know the church members and the life of our church. Linda will teach, preach and help each of us in our faith journeys. Pastoral care, Stephen Ministry, support to the Deacons and administering the sacraments are some of Linda’s responsibilities.
Most Rewarding Part of the Job: Linda has especially enjoyed working with Jim and Lorraine and the rest of the church staff as everyone appreciates each other’s gifts and the work that the others do. They truly experience the joys of working together. Equally as rewarding is the privilege to get to know the members of our church and see how Christ is at work in their lives, and all the ways they are involved in church life. Linda is “all about the story” and enjoys talking with people and learning their faith journeys.
Most Challenging Part of Work: Linda’s past experience has given her the opportunity to be involved in many facets of ministry but her challenge here as a staff member is learning our rhythm of church life and getting to know everyone. She is thrilled to be at Desert Palms and believes this is a wonderful opportunity to continue to grow and walk with God.
Work Experience & Training: Linda earned her B.A. in Journalism, Broadcast and Film at Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas and her M. Div. at San Francisco Theological Seminary. I sense that Linda has been “in training” and preparing for her ordination for much of her life. She grew up in a family that was always active in church life and she learned from an early age that church was much more than a place to go on Sundays; it was a place to get involved. She continued to be touched by people and experiences along the way and believes God was planting the seeds. Since 1999 she served as the Manager of Records/Publications/Assistant Stated Clerk of the Presbytery of the Grand Canyon and served as pulpit supply for churches around the presbytery since 2003. She had her internship at the University Presbyterian Church in Tempe from September 2007- May 2008, and was the Director of Single Adult Ministries for Valley Presbyterian Church from 1999-2003, with an emphasis in older adult ministry. Linda said that when she attended seminary she just knew it was right because she experienced a kind of “homecoming”.
Off The Job Interests: She especially enjoys her time in the garden. She also enjoys pottery, sculpting, and painting. Linda has a passion for music and it is a big part of her life. She enjoys singing in choral groups, going to concerts with friends and getting together with musicians. She enjoys traveling to new places, exploring museums, watching movies and she is always fascinated by people’s life-journeys. Linda stays connected with the advances of technology and how it impacts our lives.
Personal notes: When asked about the future, Linda says she looks forward to seeing where God leads her in ministry.
