Habitat for Humanity
Saturday, October 20 was a joyous day for the Linares family. Their home, sponsored by the Presbyterian Coalition, was dedicated in El Amor de Christo in Peoria. Each family that obtains a Habitat house must put in 400 hours of sweat equity—150 hours on other homes and 250 hours on their own. This family was so enthusiastic that they put in 800 hours of sweat equity—helping others as well as themselves. This was a wonderful morning for the family and the coalition members.
The Presbyterian Coalition has raised $62,834 towards this home with $2,166 still to be raised. Each church in the Coalition received a plaque in recognition of their contributions to Habitat.
The Johnson Town homes in Surprise, located on Paradise Road are well underway. On October 13 a wall raising was held on the second five-family building. Since these are two-story homes, it is a new learning experience for Habitat. They hope to have homes ready for occupancy next spring or before.
