EVANGELISM

Evangelism is the activity of sharing one’s faith in God with others. Faith sharing has as its ultimate purpose an invitation. Faith is shared in order to invite others into the life of faith and to invite others into the church, the community of faith. 

Desert Palms Presbyterian Church has an Evangelism Committee chaired by elder Pat Densford-Phillips. The Evangelism Committee meets monthly to plan

· Inquirers Classes on Sunday mornings for people who are seeking to develop their faith and to learn about how the Presbyterian Church, U.S.A. expresses its faith and lives out its faith in the world.

· New Member Orientations each fall, winter, and spring for people who want to join Desert Palms Presbyterian Church

· The Annual Strawberry Festival for the whole NW Valley community (April 19, 2008 this year)

· Andrew Ministry, a team of 24 people especially trained in reaching out to others, making connections, and sharing faith

· Adult Education for the whole congregation in Faith Sharing

· Minutes for Evangelism in Sunday morning worship

· Signage and newspaper ads and articles to communicate Desert Palms Presbyterian Church’s presence in the community.

Faith sharing is a natural and joyful part of one’s Christian commitment. In a sense, every church member is an evangelist. What we say and how we conduct ourselves in the public and private arenas says a lot about who our God is. The Bible says that people watching the Early Church observed, “See how they love one another.” Won’t your consider being a part of the loving community known as Desert Palms Presbyterian Church?

Desert Palms Annual Strawberry Festival

At the annual Strawberry Festival on April 19th, members of the congregation shared with their friends and neighbors ice cream with strawberries, an antique auto show, a country western vocalist and warm, friendly fellowship.

Andrew Ministry

Have you seen the folks at Desert Palms wearing a big round yellow badge?

While the message in big black letters on it reads ”ASK ME” the real meaning is to help newcomers—and visitors—to our church find their way into fellowship in our Christian Community at Desert Palms.

The group behind this movement is Andrew Ministry. This is a ministry of hospitality: welcoming and inviting people to take part in the fellowship of our church.

Andrew Ministry team members are members of the congregation who are comfortable meeting other people and enthusiastic about the church and our faith. It just comes naturally, then, that they are eager to share this knowledge with visitors. Of course it helps if they know where things are, when things happen, and how to find out about all the many activities that Desert Palms offers to its members and friends.

Associate Pastor Don Houdeshell serves as the staff resource liaison, providing training and biblical and theological perspective to the Andrew Ministry members.
