Stephen Ministry
Stephen Ministry at Desert Palms A Ministry of Compassion and Caring

“Like good stewards of the manifold grace of God, serve one another with whatever gift each of you has.” (1Peter 4:10)

God gives each one of us special and unique gifts. Some people in our congregation are musicians, some are visual artists, some are really good cooks, and some are just wonderful to be around! God has showered us with blessings in the form of gifts and talents. Do you remember the story in Matthew 25 about the servant who hid his master's talents? Those talents brought no benefit to the owner. Let us not hide our gifts, but share them in service to one another.

How can I start to serve others and use my gifts to please God, the giver of all gifts? Ask one of your Stephen Ministry leaders: Suzanne Burke, Kathe Cochrane, Jan Ettele, Nora Timson, Carole Jean Soine, or Pastor Linda for more information on how to become involved as a Stephen Minister. The gift of caring just might be your special gift to share!

Or, perhaps you feel like your tank is running on fumes right now. Maybe it would be helpful for you to share your burdens with a confidential Christian friend. Get in touch with one of the folks named above for more information about how a Stephen Minister could help you through your rough spot so that you can share your gifts again! Stephen Ministers are trained and ready to "carry each other's burdens".

When a Stephen Minister offers care and comfort to someone, they are stepping into a holy place, into the other person’s unique universe of selfhood, need and pain. It is holy because, when they enter in, they find Jesus already there ahead of them – in that unique person. What a privilege!
