Health Cabinet Update – Save This Information
The Health Cabinet recently discussed the concern church members have expressed regarding buying or borrowing medical assistive devices or technology when such an item might be needed on a temporary basis. We wish to share with you two important potential sources for such devices. “Helping Hands,” located on Stardust Boulevard and open from 8-12 a.m., Monday-Friday, is available to meet equipment needs for Sun City West, Sun City Grand, and Corte Bella residents. A recreation or activity card is required for identification purposes to borrow equipment. Equipment is loaned on a 90-day basis but is not reserved so is available on a first come basis. Some equipment is available only with a doctor’s prescription identifying the need for such equipment. A complete list of such equipment can be obtained from “Helping Hands”(975-5499), or you may call Ellen at the church.
In addition to the above named resource, Northern Arizona University has now developed a statewide Phoenix based website (ATEX—Assistive Technology Exchange) to assist individuals to place ads to donate, buy, sell, exchange, or advertise a piece of assistive technology. Assistive technology is defined as any item, piece of equipment or product system that is used to increase, maintain, or improve the capabilities of individuals with disabilities. There are no charges or fees to post an ad on the ATEX website. The website can be found at www.AZATEXchange.org. For additional information about the ATEX program or for assistance with placing an ad, please call Clayton Guffey—Assistive Technology Specialist at 602-776-4699, toll free at 1-800-477-9921 or by email at: admin@azatexchange.org.
We hope this information will prove helpful to you should you need any assistive technology at a future time.
